Southern Oregon Commuter Rail Study
The RVMPO, with the assistance of ODOT’s rail group and consultant Ed Immel, conducted a preliminary study of commuter rail between Ashland and Grants Pass. No action was taken at that time; recently the RVMPO Policy Committee has requested that staff look into the issue again. An analysis of diesel rail car commuter service was completed in 2006, and the RVMPO is continuing to investigate the feasibility of commuter rail service. An updated report is nearing completion.
The RVMPO Freight Advisory Committee is forming a new Rail Subcommittee and representatives from CORP, WCTU and other appropriate organizations will be invited to participate in regular discussions about the conditions under which commuter rail could develop in the Rogue Valley. This Rail Subcommittee will also focus on freight rail issues. If you are interested in receiving meeting notices, please contact Dan Moore at dmoore@rvmpo.org or at 541-423-1365.
