Regional Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Operations & Implementation Plan for the Rogue Valley Metropolitan Area - Final Report , July 2004
The Rogue Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization sponsored the Rogue Valley Intelligent Transportation Systems (RVITS) project to improve transportation without spending large sums of tax dollars on road building. RVITS looks for new ways to use advances in technology to make the transportation system safer and more efficient.
The project was part of a Federal Highway Administration initiative to integrate advanced communications systems and other technological innovations into transportation planning, construction and operations. Representatives from the RVMPO's member jurisdictions worked with consultants and local emergency response groups (ambulance, police and fire) to produce an Intelligent Transportation Systems plan that best fits are region - now and in the future.
Work on the RVITS plan began in 2003. The project includes an inventory of current resources, identification of transportation needs, and identification of how Intelligent Transportation Systems tools can be applied to improve conditions.
